OLYMPICS: Slovenia 42nd on Medal Count, 6th by Medals Per Capita

Winning hardware for Slovenia in London were judoka Urška Žolnir (gold), hammer-thrower Primož Kozmus (silver), shooter Rajmond Debevec (bronze) and rowers Iztok Čop and Luka Špik (bronze).

Slovenia's tally in London ranks as its third best summer Olympic performance since independence in 1991, behind Sydney in 2000 (three gold) and Beijing in 2008 (one gold, two silver, two bronze). It brings the Slovenian medal tally at summer Games since independence to 19. Of these four have been gold, six silver and nine bronze. While unable to compete with the likes of sports powerhouses US, China, Britain and Russia in the official medal rankings, Slovenia is perennially among the top countries in medals per capita. In London it finished sixth in this unofficial category with roughly one medal for 514,000 people, being beaten only by four Caribbean islands (Grenada, Jamaica, Trinidad and Tobago and the Bahamas) and New Zealand.
