Slovenia Regions
The statistical regions of Slovenia are 12 administrative entities created in 2007 for legal and statistical purposes.
The two cohesion regions are:
- East Slovenia (Vzhodna Slovenija - SI01), which groups the Mura, Drava, Carinthia, Savinja, Central Sava, Lower Sava, Southeast Slovenia, and Inner Carniola-Karst regions.
- West Slovenia (Zahodna Slovenija - SI02), which groups the Central Slovenia, Upper Carniola, Gorizia, and Coastal-Karst regions.

The historical attachment of the Slovene people to Austria, Italy, and Hungary is still reflected in their dialects, customs, and thinking. According to the regions of the former Austrian Empire, Slovenes are called "Kranjci" (Carniolans), "Primorci" (inhabitants of the coast region), "Stajerci" (from the former Styria), and "Prekmurci" (inhabitants of formerly Hungarian eastern Slovenia); within the territory of the former Carniola, they are further divided into "Gorenjci" (from Upper Carniola), "Dolenjci" (from Lower Carniola), and "Notranjci" (from Inner Carniola)
