Winter Olympics: first group of athletes arrive in Sochi

The first wave of athletes arrived in Sochi, Russia on Thursday ready for the 22nd edition of the Winter Olympics which begin on February 7th.

To no great surprise the Russian athletes were among the first teams to arrive at the Black Sea resort.

Team Great Britain weren't long in following as they look to bring home a record medal haul.

Their biggest hopes are pinned on current world cup skeleton champion - 25-year-old Lizzie Yarnold and 32-year old Shelley Rudman - the reigning skeleton world champion.

Members of team USA also arrived in Russia eight days before the start of the Games.

Among those to arrive was converted track athlete Lolo Jones, who will contest the bobsleigh with Lauryn Williams.

The U.S. is sending their largest delegation in their Winter Olympic history with 230 athletes.
