Vuelta a Espana: Alberto Contador seals the deal

Santiago de Compostela crowned the new king of the Vuelta a Espana on Sunday (September 14). Alberto Contador sealed his victory on home turf after the final time-trial stage.

Movistar rider Adriano Malori won the stage. Contador came in one minute and forty seconds behind over the 15.6-kilometre course. It was enough to cement his third Tour of Spain victory.

The Tinkoff-Saxo rider was joined on the podium by Team Sky's Chris Froome in second and fellow Spaniard Alejandro Valverde, who came in third.

It was not a decisive stage; the overall outcome was practically a foregone conclusion, so none of the riders took any great risks.

In the end, the difference between Contador and Froome's finishing times was one minute ten seconds, leaving Joaquim Rodriguez out of the running for a medal this time.
