Violeta Bulc Approved by European Parliament

The coordinators of the committee confirmed Bulc as suitable for transport commissioner after holding a hearing with her on Monday evening, the European People's Party (EPP) representative on the committee announced.

"Bulc is through. Transport Committee gives her the green light," Wim van de Camp tweeted after the coordinators held a meeting early in the morning.

The approval from the coordinators - which saves Bulc from facing a full committee vote - was expected after the hearing.

However, it appears that despite the broad support, some of the political groups still have reservations regarding the politically inexperienced candidate.

"S&D support for Bulc is leap of faith. We expect her to deliver on sustainable and social aspects promised by Šefčovič and will keep sharp eye," the Socialists & Democrats (S&D) coordinator Ismal Ertug wrote on Twitter.

Ertug echoed the sentiment voiced yesterday by a number of committee members, who expressed disappointment that the original candidate, Slovakia's Maroš Šefčovič, was being moved from the portfolio to head the energy union.

While the MEPs maintained that this was not a criticism of Bulc, it was clear that they expected the Slovenian candidate to stick to what Šefčovič had promised to the committee.
