Tuerk and Medvedev Happy with Bilateral Ties

According to a press release by Tuerk's office, the pair focused on international issues, especially the development of security and cooperation mechanisms in Europe, and certain open issues related to European security.

Medvedev presented his efforts for the resolution of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, efforts which also enjoy wide support in Slovenia. Tuerk stressed the importance of tangible steps that help build trust.

Tuerk and his host also discussed the situation in Moldavia as well as Transnistria, agreeing that existing efforts needed to be strengthened with a push from the EU.

The pair moreover touched on the development of cooperation between Russia and NATO and Russia and the EU. They shared the view that a boost needs to be given to the progress made at last year's NATO-Russia summit in Lisbon and at the EU-Russia summit.

Tuerk argued in favour of the NATO-Russia Council gradually being upgraded from a consultative body to a decision making body.

He also backed Medvedev's initiative on strategic security in Europe. "We live in a multi-polar world today, which is why the security system should be organised in a new way," Tuerk was quoted by the Itar-Tass agency.

Before visiting the Kremlin, Tuerk made a stop at the Novodevichy cemetery in Moscow, where he laid wreaths at the graves of former Russian President Boris Yeltsin, and writers Mikhail Bulgakov and Nikolai Gogol.
