Traditional Beer Festival Beginning Today in Laško

The 50th Festival of Beer and Flowers will kick off in the town of Laško (N) on Thursday. The festival will culminate on Sunday with a traditional rustic wedding and a Beer and Flowers Parade, featuring four brass bands from Slovenia and abroad, beverage maker Pivovarna Laško has told the press ahead of the festival.

Almost 40 singers and music bands, including popular Big Foot Mama and Vlado Kreslin, will perform on four different stages. Saturday evening will feature "The Water Symphony", a spectacle of lights, music and waterworks on the Savinja river.

Several ethnological and cultural events will feature exhibitions displayed in the Laško Museum and in the Hiša generacij seniors centre.

The city's heritage will be presented in a event called "It is really nice in the countryside", for which an improvised village has been set up.

Matej Oset, a Laško management member, has said that this year's festival will introduce a few novelties. The main festival area has been moved to the outskirts of Laško, since the old location in the town centre proved too small to host big musical events.

Also held for the first time this year will be a DJ party on Friday.

This year's beer prices remain the same as last year - EUR 2 for 0.5 litre. Entrance fee will be EUR 10. The visitors who had too much to drink will get a "red card" from the festival and a free train ticket home from the Slovenske železnice railway operator.

Special attention will also be given to ensuring proper camping grounds with appropriate toilet and shower facilities.

Visitors can also download a free mobile app containing all important information, Oset said.
