The End of "Alpine World Cup Drama": Maze Finishes Second

Slovenia's Tina Maze was third in Sunday's Alpine Ski World Cup finale in France's Meribal to concede the overall win to her fiercest rival, Anna Fenniger of Austria, who won the event ahead of her compatriot Eva-Maria Brem.

Maze was in the lead before today's giant slalom but Fenninger was better by 0.46 seconds to leapfrog the Slovenian and win her second World Cup title in a row.

The 31-year-old Slovenian, who could be retiring after this season, was clearly disappointed with the outcome, as she failed to defend her 18-point lead and finished 22 points behind the 25-year-old Austrian.

Maze, a two-time Olympic champion and four-time world champion, was looking to earn her second overall World Cup title after she accomplished the feat in 2013 in a record-breaking season.
