Apple's co-founder and iconic boss Steve Jobs has resigned from the technology giant, ending his 14-year second tenure at the helm of one of the worlds most valuable companies.
Jobs, a pancreatic cancer survivor, has been on medical leave for an undisclosed condition since January. The 56-year-old is a living legend in Silicon Valley, being the visionary behind the Macintosh computer, the iPod, the iPhone and the iPad. Despite giving up the top job, he will remain as chairman.
The man named to replace him is Tim Cook who has been running the day-to-day operations in Jobs' absence. In a statement to the board, Jobs said: "if the day came when he could no longer meet his duties as Apple CEO he would be the first to let them know, unfortunately that day has come."
