Parliament Speaker Milan Brglez will meet President Borut Pahor on Wednesday to discuss the formation of deputy groups in the National Assembly, a precondition for Pahor launching talks with parties about his proposal for the prime minister-designate.
Two parties are yet to form their deputy groups and appoint their heads.
The meeting is also to discuss the schedule of consultations of deputy group heads with Pahor about the PM-designate and further steps of the parliamentary speaker and the president regarding the appointment of the new government.
Brglez expects complications in the formal establishing of deputy groups as he is sceptical that the Democratic Party (SDS), which maintains that the 13 July elections were illegitimate, will form a group by Friday's deadline.
The SDS, whose head Janez Janša went to prison less than a month before the election, said earlier this week that it would meet the deadline.
The United Left (ZL) coalition, which opted for the opposition in this term, will expectedly formalise its deputy group today.
So far deputy groups have been established by the election winner SMC, the Social Democrats (SD), New Slovenia (NSi), the Alenka Bratušek Alliance (ZaAB) and the Pensioners' Party (DeSUS).
President Pahor has 30 days following the inauguration of the National Assembly last Friday to put forward a nominee for the PM-designate. SMC president Miro Cerar, who is the most likely candidate, is already in coalition talks with DeSUS, the SD, the NSi and the ZaAB.
It is expected that a coalition will be formed within the next two weeks, while the new government could be inaugurated in the second half of September.
