An average Slovenian consumed 121 kilos of cereals, 94 kilos of meat, 70 kilos of potato and 90 kilos of vegetables as well as drinking nearly 38 litres of wine in 2010, fresh statistics show.

Slovenians also consumed 36 kilos of sugar and ten kilos of eggs per capita in 2010, according to data published by the Statistics Office. The bulk of the cereals consumed was wheat at 100 kilos per capita, with pork and beef ranking as the most popular types of meat at 42kg and 20kg per capita, respectively. Slovenia is much more self-sufficient when it comes to animal products than crop produce. Especially low rates of self-sufficiency in 2010 were recoded for vegetables and wheat at 31% and 56%, respectively. The rate of self-sufficiency for meat and eggs topped 80%. Meanwhile, Slovenia produced more wine than it consumed, with white wines representing 63% of the quality wine produced by the country in the commercial year 2009/10.
