Slovenian contemporary design in wood on show

A travelling exhibition of Slovenian contemporary design in wood will be launched at the headquarters of the Culture Ministry on Tuesday to mark the 25th anniversary of Slovenia's independence.

The exhibition showcases 16 architectural and design studios or groups and individuals. On display in Ljubljana until 17 June, it will then travel to diplomatic and other Slovenian offices abroad.

Being rich in forests, Slovenia has recognised wood as a strategic material that offers an abundance of opportunities, the Culture Ministry said in a press release on the exhibition.

The projects displayed include the Slovenian pavilion at the 2015 EXPO show in Milan, a bivouac below Mt Skuta and a mobile info point for the Triglav National Park.

Among other things, the show also features furniture, wooden accessories and toys as well as a project exploring the use of Japanese knotweed in paper industry.

The show has been curated by designers Barbara Predan and Ranko Novak.
