Slovenia is below the EU average in terms of innovation output, though it ranks squarely in the middle of the rankings, at 14th, according to a new indicator unveiled by the European Commission on Friday.
The indicator of innovation output measures the extent to which ideas from innovative sectors are able to reach the market. It was developed at the request of EU leaders to benchmark national innovation policies.
Sweden, Germany, Ireland and Luxembourg top the rankings. Slovenia is in a group of moderately successful countries along with Austria, Cyprus, Italy and Hungary.
The indicator measures performance in technological innovation, employment in knowledge-intensive activities, competitiveness of knowledge-intensive goods and services, and employment in fast-growing firms in innovative sectors.
