The film is about a boy growing up in Marfa, Texas, a town with a population of 1800 people, not far from the Mexican border. It explores the lives of a group of characters in an area that is made up of mainly white and Mexican-Americans.
Italian actress Isabella Ferrari received the Best Actress Award for her role in Paolo Franchi's provocative new movie "They Call It Summer" ("E la Chimano Estate") examining the separation between love and sex.
The movie, based on a real-life case Franchi read about in a psychoanalysis journal, follows Anna and Dino, an enamoured couple in their forties.
While the two feel they have found "the one" in each other, Dino, however, is incapable of having a physical relationship with Anna.
Obsessed with sex, he turns to prostitutes and swingers parties to fulfil his physical desires while idealising the real love of his life.
Anna, on her part, is frustrated but unable to leave the man she loves.
The Best Actor Award went to Jérémie Elkaïm for his role in the film " Main dans la main" by Valérie Donzelli. The movie will be released in December.
Finally first-time filmmakers Alan and Gabriel Polsky went home with the Audience Award for their film "The Motel Life", an exploration of the intense bond between two brothers living on the fringes of Reno, Nevada.
When one of the two is involved in a fatal accident, it forces both of them to chose between running away or facing reality. It is a story of brotherhood, shared dreams and the redemptive power of hope.
"The Motel Life" also won the Best Screenplay Award.
