Registered Unemployment Up 4.6% in February


Unemployment in Slovenia dropped slightly in February over the month before, but a year-on-year comparison shows an increase of 4.6%. The number of people registered with the Employment Service dropped by 79 or 0.1% in February over January to 129,764.

 

Just over 7,970 people were registered as unemployed in February, which was 46.2% less than in January and 7.7% more than in February 2013.

 

Nearly 1,380 of those who registered anew were first-time job seekers. Over 1,730 were laid off, while 3,810 faced unemployment after their fixed-term contracts expired.

 

 

Over 8,050 people were removed from the Employment Service's register in February. Nearly 6,000 of them found a job or started their own company, which is 3.7% less than in January and 24.3% more than in February 2013.

 

The data moreover show that unemployment continues to increase in the groups of 15-29-year-olds and 30-39-year-olds. Unemployment continued to increase both among men and women.

 

On average, 129,804 people were registered with the Employment Service in the first two months of 2014. Compared to the average for January and February 2013, the figure is 4.5% higher.
