Dominique Strauss-Kahn is having to adjust to life behind bars until at least his next court appearance on Friday.
Officials say the world's top banker will be treated like another inmate although he is being kept apart for his own protection.
Details are now emerging about the hotel maid who has accused him of attempted rape.
She is a 32-year-old immigrant from Guinea with a 15-year-old daughter.
"This young woman had no idea who this man was even after the assault," said lawyer Jeffrey Shapiro."Certainly not before she went in there, even after this horrible thing happened to her, had no idea who this man was and didn't find out who he was in the world until sometime the next day. So there was no conspiracy. This was a chambermaid who was simply trying to do her job. There was no conspiracy in any respect that she was a part of."
Meanwhile pressure is mounting on the IMF chief to resign. With bail denied him, his colleagues on the 24-member Monetary board are unable to contact him. Although reluctant to pre-judge the man they are anxious to avoid giving the impression that the IMF is unable to function properly.
