President to Talk Election Proceedings with Jurists

President Borut Pahor will host eleven jurists, mostly experts on constitutional law, on Wednesday for talks on when exactly the upcoming early election can be held considering the legal and constitutional constraints.

The issue at hand is whether it is admissible for the president to shorten the 30-day window for the nomination of a PM-designate, which starts when parliament formally takes note of Alenka Bratušek's resignation on Thursday.

This will determine whether an early election can be held before the summer holidays as some parties want, or whether it will have to be pushed forward, possibly to late July or early August.

Opinions voiced by jurists so far cover the entire spectrum of possibilities. It is expected that Pahor will attempt to find some common ground to decide what to do.
