President to Attend Pope Francis's Installation Mass

More than a hundred government delegations and several hundred thousand believers are expected to attend the ceremony in St Peter's Square which will mark the beginning of Pope Francis's pontificate.

During the inauguration, Francis will receive his papal regalia, including a pallium, which is a woollen shoulder band, and his fisherman's ring.

On the sidelines of the event, Pahor is scheduled to hold several bilateral meetings.

Pahor already met his Italian counterpart Giorgio Napolitano in Rome last night in their first meeting since Pahor took over as president in December last year.

Pahor is also due to meet General Governor of Canada David Johnston as well as Slovenian Cardinal France Rode and other Slovenian representatives in the Vatican. A meeting with Cardinal Santos Abril y Castello, the Holy See's former nuncio to Slovenia, is also on his agenda.
