President Pahor to Address UN General Assembly

President Borut Pahor will address the 69th session of the UN General Assembly dedicated to drawing up a development agenda after 2015 on Friday. The address will be the president's final engagement in New York, where he attended the UN Climate Change Summit 2014 and held several bilateral meetings.

Pahor will talk about the importance of the UN Security Council's mandate for military interventions. The president has already talked about the matter earlier this week, when he commented the US attacks on Islamic State.

Slovenia condemns the ideology and actions carried out by Islamic State and is taking part in the efforts to stop the terrorist activity.

Pahor is also expected to talk about climate change and UN reforms in today's address, during which he will most likely highlight Slovenia's priorities, including human rights, mediation, protection responsibility, rule of law and criminal prosecution.

The main theme of this session of the UN General Assembly are development and climate change. Many other important topics have also been put on the agenda, including the recent Ebola outbreak in Africa.

Africa health safety was already discussed in Thursday's special meeting during which world leaders urged cooperation and measures against the deadly disease.
