President Pahor Receives Qatari Minister

President Borut Pahor received on Friday Qatari Minister of Awqaf and Islamic Affairs Ghaith bin Mubarak Al Kuwari on the eve of the laying of a foundation stone in Ljubljana for the first mosque in Slovenia. Qatar is the biggest donor for the mosque that is expected to cost EUR 21m.

The president's office said in a press release that Pahor had always supported the construction of the mosque and Islamic centre in Ljubljana.

Pahor and Al Kuwari, who was accompanied by the head of the Muslim community in Slovenia, Mufti Nedžad Grabus, also called for further strengthening of cooperation between Slovenia and Qatar in economy, politics, culture and other areas.

Al Kuwari said he was glad that a foundation stone for the Ljubljana mosque will finally by laid. According to him, this act means that Slovenia respects differences among cultures in the country.

Pahor asked the minister about the situation in the region, in particular about the crisis in Syria and the Arab Spring. The pair also talked about the role of Islam in the globalised world, according to the press release.
