Portuguese football legend Eusebio has died aged 71 from a heart attack.
The charismatic striker was born in Mozambique in 1942 when it was still a Portuguese colony.
He went on to feature for the national side 64 times scoring 41 goals.
He was top scorer at the 1966 World Cup in England with nine goals - four of which came against North Korea.
Nicknamed the Black panther Eusebio was at part of the Benfica team that won the European cup in 1962 and 11 domestic league titles over a 15-year spell with the club.
The President of Portugal, Anibal Cavaco Silva led the tributes to arguably one of the greatest footballers of all time saying: "The country cries his death. The country is officially in mourning. The best way to pay homage to him, the way in which the ‘Black Panther' himself would like to be paid homage, would be to follow his example. Let's follow the example of Eusebio da Silva Ferreira as an athlete and as a human being."
The 1965 European footballer of the year is Benfica's all-time top scorer with 638 goals.
Many fans paid homage to their hero leaving tributes at a statue of the player outside the Luz Stadium.
Benfica said in a statment that the funeral mass will take place in the Seminary Church near the stadium on Monday afternoon after which he will be laid to rest at the Lumiar cemetery, in the city's northern suburbs.
