Pollution-hit Paris offers free public transport

An exceptionally mild March has seen pollution levels soar in Paris, prompting urgent action to make the city air more breathable.

Warm weather combined with heavy traffic has badly affected air quality, exposing inhabitants and visitors to the French capital to fine particles.

Authorities now say public transport will be free from Friday and throughout the weekend to encourage people to leave their cars at home.
