PM to Present Stability Plan to Social Partners, Opposition

Bratušek will present the Stability Programme to the country's main industrial relations forum after the document which envisages higher VAT rates and some new taxes was debated by the coalition on Monday.

The government needs to submit the document to Brussels by 9 May together with the National Reform Programme, which the Economic and Social Council had already discussed nearly a fortnight ago, finding the document too vague.

First reactions to the measures indicate the social partners are even more unhappy about the draft Stability Programme. Employers are concerned about the planned higher taxes will be a clog in the wheel of development, while they would also like to see a more through analysis of the impact of the measures.

The planned introduction of a crisis tax on personal income also bothers trade unions, who believe that in this way "little man will pay again for criminal economic policies of the state".

The draft Stability Programme as well as the National Reform Programme will also be presented to the opposition, who have already expressed criticism of both documents, one for being too general and the other for being imbalanced for relying too heavily on the revenue side and too little on spending reduction.
