PM Holds Talks With Gazprom Chairman

Miller acquainted Janša with progress on the construction of the pipeline, which will pipe Russian gas to Europe, saying works would begin as early as the end of this year.

The incorporation of Južni Tok Slovenija (South Stream Slovenia), in which Gazprom and Slovenia's Plinovodi will each hold a 50% stake, is expected to be concluded today. Miller and Plinovodi boss Marjan Eberlinc will sign the incorporation agreement on the sidelines of a business conference held in Portorož. The final route of pipeline is to be determined in November, but countries through which it is to pass include Bulgaria, Slovenia, Serbia and Hungary.

At present Austria is not included in the route. Greece, Croatia have also signed international agreements on cooperation. In December 2011, Russia signed an agreement with Turkey and at the beginning of February with Montenegro as well. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015 and is estimated at over EUR 16bn. The Slovenian section of the pipeline will cost about EUR 1bn. The pipeline will have an annual capacity of 63 billion cubic metres of gas.
