Parliament to Debate Arbitration Agreement with Croatia

The discussion at the committee comes after the government failed to confirm the brief in two recent sessions. According to PM Janez Janša, "things were not prepared well".

Janša's view was rejected by Foreign Minister Karl Erjavec, who noted that some members of the government disagreed with the "tactics in argumentation on why we think the border between Croatia and Slovenia runs where we think it does". According to Erjavec, a minority is proposing an unrealistic approach.

Delo reported last week that certain party leaders who pushed for a referendum on the border arbitration agreement almost three years ago maintained that Slovenia should argue the land border in accordance with the "historical border of the municipality of Piran", which ran up to the tip of the cape of Savudrija.

Meanwhile, Janša has also indicated that the National Assembly might debate the content of the brief. The confidential document was originally planned to be debated only by the Foreign Policy Committee and confirmed by the government.
