Number of Tourists Up in First Five Months


The number of tourists recorded in Slovenia in the first five months increased by 3.2% over the same period last year, but the number of overnight stays they made stayed roughly the same, according to the latest data released by the Statistics Office on Monday.

 

While the number of domestic tourists dropped by 1% in the January-to-May period, the number of foreign ones rose by 5.9%.

Consequently, domestic tourists accounted for a 2.6% drop in overnight stays in this period, whereas the number of overnight stays by foreigners rose by 1.3%.

 

 

In May, however, the total number of tourists rose by 3% over May 2013, but they made fewer overnight stays (-2.9%).

 

A drop in domestic tourists in May was over 4%, but the number of their overnight stays dropped by only 1.1%.

In the same month, more foreign tourists visited Slovenia (+2.6%), but the number of overnight stays they made dropped by as much as 5%.

 

Foreign tourists accounted for almost two-quarters of all overnight stays in May (65%), with Austrians placing first (16%), followed by Italians (14%) and Germans (12%).

 

The overnight stays made by Italian tourists increased by 29% in May year-on-year, while those by Germans dropped by 30%.
