Nuclear Safety Exercise in Krško Power Plant

A two-day nuclear safety exercise will get under way in Ljubljana and Krško Wednesday acting out a scenario in the event of nuclear fallout from the Krško Nuclear Power Plant. The last such exercise was carried out in 2008.

The scenario predicates the spread of a nuclear cloud due to an accident in Krško - an event that is deemed highly unlikely - and will involve 370 national and local relief and protection workers.

The focus of the exercise will be on testing the response of systems at all levels of the protection system and will not directly involve the population, according to the Disaster Relief Administration.

The exercise will involve the Nuclear Safety Administration, which will be tasked with providing information to its Croatian counterpart and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).
