New Twingo from Slovenia Premiers at Geneva Motor Show

The new generation Twingo, which will be manufactured exclusively at Renault's Slovenian plant in Novo mesto, launched world premieres at the Geneva Motor Show on Tuesday. Revoz CEO Patrice Haettel says 30% of the parts in the new Twingo will be manufactured in Slovenia.

The production of the new generation Twingo is a major opportunity and challenge for Revoz, Haettel has told the STA, adding that the the new product will also include a lot of Slovenian know-how.

Revoz hopes to increase the output from a little below 100,000 to almost 120,000 cars with the production of the new Twingo. The figure also includes the current Twingo and Clio models, as well as the Smart four-seater, for which date of the launch of production is yet to be announced.

Haettel, who took over at the helm of the Slovenian plant in October 2013, says the maximum production capacity at Revoz is 220,000 cars, while the investment required for the production of the Smart, has upgraded the plant so it can also assemble other Renault models as well as those of its partner Nissan.

Revoz CEO is satisfied with the business climate and working conditions in Slovenia, although the country is grappling with a crisis. Despite the economic turmoil, Revoz hopes the new Twingo will be a success, which will enable the opening of even more jobs. Even now the company is looking for 270 new staff.

The new Twingo, whose production is slated to begin in the second half of the year, comes seven years after its predecessor. Renault Nissan Slovenija PR officer Rok Istenič says the new edition comes in two versions and three equipment packages.

The latest generation boasts the best turning radius in its class, which will make it a perfect city car, Renault's chief competition officer Thierry Bollore told the presentation, expressing the expectation that the new Twingo would be as successful as its predecessor, whose sales topped two million.

The 84th Geneva Motor Show, which will open for visitors on Thursday, will feature all the leading car manufacturers and many world and European premiers. The show will run until 16 March.
