National mourning for Nigeria plane crash victims

All 153 people on board were killed as the jet crashed into buildings in the Agege neighbourhood on Sunday night. Four Chinese citizens are among the dead, according to Chinese news agency Xinhua.

It is Nigeria's worst air accident in almost 20 years. Rescue efforts were hampered by locals and onlookers gathering at the site of the crash, however, some did help to put out the flames. The flight operated by Dana Air took off from the capital Abuja and was set to land at Lagos' Murtala Muhammed Airport. It is not yet known what caused the crash.

Referring also to a church bombing that killed 10 people on Sunday morning, President Goodluck Jonathan said the crash "has sadly plunged the nation into further sorrow on a day when Nigerians were already in grief over the loss of many other innocent lives".
