Ljubljana University Celebrating 95 Years

The annual Week of Ljubljana University will kick off on Monday with a number of events organised by the 26 schools of Slovenia's oldest university, which celebrates its 95th birthday this year.

The week will start with presentations of top research achievements. However, one of the most attractive events during the week will be the premiere of a War and Peace opera composed by US musician Larry Corryell.

One of four universities in the country, the University of Ljubljana is the biggest, with nearly 49,000 students and a staff of almost 6,000.

"The University of Ljubljana is the only Slovenian university ranking among the best in the world and we are trying to improve the ranking," Chancellor Ivan Svetlik has told the STA ahead of University Week.

He added that the university was trying to become more international, welcoming an increasing number of foreign students and professors, as well as boosting its IT support.
