Pilot and photographer Matevž Lenarčič, who recently completed a flight over the North Pole in an ultralight aircraft, has been declared the world's top pilot of the year.
Lenarčič has won the Flightglobal Achievement Award despite strong competition, which included Austrian skydiver Felix Baumgartner.
The honour was awarded to Lenarčič on Tuesday at the Paris Air Show, the biggest aviation event in France, Pipistrel, the company that makes the ultralight aircraft used by Lenarčič, said in a press release on Friday.
Lenarčič was picked for his feat in 2012, when he completed his second solo flight around the world with an ultralight aircraft.
