Latvian Cultural Embassy Last One to Open Doors in Maribor

The development of Art Nouveau in the late 19th and early 20th centuries coincided with an expansion of cities in Latvia. In Riga's city centre, nearly 40% of all buildings are Art Nouveau, which is more than anywhere else in the world.

In only a few years, more than 100 multi-story concrete building were erected, giving Riga the characteristic look that has remained unchanged since the early 20th century.

After the embassy opening, film "Controversial History" by Latvian film makers Inara Kolmana and Uldis Neiburgis will be screened. The film features three different version of World War II memories.

The Latvian Cultural Embassy will remain open until the end of the month. Currently, Maribor is also hosting the Slovakian Cultural Embassy.

These are the last ones in the series of 31 cultural embassies that presented their culture in Maribor this year. The project featured 16 European countries and 15 from other continents.
