Koper Mayor Boris Popović said at a short welcoming ceremony that this was a historic moment for Slovenia, as the country did not accommodate sea cruise tourism at such a large scale until now.
The Voyager of the Seas was the first passenger ship to sail into the port after the passenger terminal was modernised. The investment cost EUR 1.59m.
Voyager of the Seas is 1,020 ft (311 metres) long, it has 15 passenger decks and 1,557 cabins. Its guests can enjoy the on-deck pool, an ice-skating rink, a rock-climbing wall, an in-line skating facility, a mini-golf course and a basketball court, to name a few.
The ship is scheduled to sail into Koper port additional 19 times during the course of the year, the Koper port said in a press release.
