Michaela Kirchgasser of Austria charged to victory in Sunday's World Cup slalom race in Kranjska Gora. Slovenia's Tina Maze finished fourth.
Leading after the first run, Kirchgasser did not give her competitors a chance by clocking the fastest second run for a combined time of 1:47.25. Kirchgasser told the STA after the competition that she felt she could be at the top already during training. She was happy to have won in Kranjska Gora, saying that the atmosphere was similar to that in Maribor, where the Golden Fox in usually held. Tanja Poutiainen of Finland finished 0.65 seconds behind the Austrian to take second, while Slovakia's Veronika Zuzulova was third +1.23 aback. Maze retained the fourth place from the first run, crossing the line 1.66 seconds behind the winner. "It was hard for me to concentrate on the competition, nonetheless I showed two good performances," Maze said after slalom, which took place two days after a dispute with the Slovenian Skiing Association. "It has been hard for me to compete at home this year, the hardest ever. Usually it was not like this. I felt immense pressure this season. My wish was great, but there was too little support from some who should have been on my side." The best skier this weekend was Tanja Poutiainen, who received the Golden Fox trophy, second was today's winner Kirchgasser, while Maze was third. Like today, also Maze finished fourth in yesterday's giant slalom. Yesterday's race was won by Tessa Worley of France, who finished ahead of Frederica Brignone of Italy and Viktoria Rebensburg of Germany.
