Dennis Kimetto obliterated the marathon world record in Berlin on Sunday. The Kenyan sliced 26 seconds off the previous record, winning the race in a time of two hours, two minutes and 57 seconds.
Second-placed Emmanuel Mutai also ran faster than the previous record - also set in Berlin - which was set by Kenyan Wilson Kipsang Kiprotich.
New record breaker Dennis Kimetto spoke to press after his victory:
"I am feeling good because I set the world record. I am really happy. The training was so good... I am feeling well."
Kimetto more than met expectations as the pre-race favourite. He broke away from a seven-man group after 20 kilometres.
With four kilometres to go, he managed to shake off Mutai, and became the first man to complete the race in less than two hours three minutes.
Berlin lived up to its reputation for being the fastest marathon in the world. This is its second consecutive world record.
