Interior Ministry's Lease Transactions Flawed

The Court of Audit has issued an adverse opinion of the Interior Ministry's lease transactions under the incumbent and former ministers, including the lease of premises for the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI).

A report covering the period between 1 January 2007 and 30 June 2010 finds that the lessors were not selected based on a public call, that bidders did not get equal treatment and that the dealings were uneconomical.

The report, which will be presented by the court's president later today, finds that the Interior Ministry acted uneconomically in leasing a building in Litostrojska street, instead of opting for lease-to-own purchase (the ministry was then ran by Dragutin Mate of the Democrats - SDS).

The same was established for the lease of the building in Dimiceva street which houses the NBI. The ministry failed to follow the goal of becoming the owner of the building thus reducing the scope of rented premises.
