Insurgents blame anti-Islam film for Kabul suicide bombing

12 people, mostly foreigners, were killed in the blast which was said to be in retaliation for an American film mocking the Prophet Mohammed.

The victims were travelling in a mini bus which had pulled over on a main highway from the city to the international airport. Eyewitnesses say the female suicide bomber pulled up alongside in a separate vehicle. Reports say most of the victims were South African, working for an international courier company. The blast came as NATO confirmed it would cut back its operations alongside Afghan forces because of a recent increase in so called "insider attacks".

Fifty-one foreign troops have been killed so far this year when Afghan police officers turned their weapons on Western allies. Officials think forces could be at increased risk of attack following the uproar over the anti-Islam film.
