Housing Prices Up in Q2

Housing prices in Slovenia increased 0.8% in the second quarter of the year, the Statistics Office announced on Thursday. New flats and existing houses were dearer, while the prices of new houses and existing flats fell compared to the first quarter.

The prices of new apartments and houses together were 1.2% higher on average than in the first three months of the year.

In the April-June period, new houses were 7.2% cheaper than in the first quarter and 14.5% cheaper year-on-year. A total of 50 new family houses were sold in the second quarter, which is the highest number since 2011.

On the other hand, new flats were 3.6% dearer on average compared to the first three months of the year and 2.9% dearer than in the second quarter of 2012. The prices were meanwhile gradually falling throughout 2012.

A total of 168 new flats were sold in the second quarter, which is slightly above average of the last year.

The prices of used houses and flats together were 0.6% higher than in the first quarter.

272 existing family homes were sold and they were 2.6% more expensive than in the previous quarter.

Existing flats were 0.2% cheaper on average in the second quarter. In Ljubljana, the prices fell for the fourth consecutive quarter, this time by 1.7%, while they were 0.7% higher elsewhere.

Although more exiting flats were sold in the second than in the first quarter, the number was below last year's quarterly average.
