Greece's government has won a parliamentary vote of confidence. In the end the deputies voted along party lines with the government taking 179 of the 300 votes available.
The vote came after Prime Minister Antonis Samaras had outlined his plan for a programme of reforms and privatisations as demanded by Greece's international lenders. The government has committed itself to a package of austerity measures in return for a 130 billion euro bailout. But faced with public anger the new conservative-led government has promised to push for changes to the deal including asking for an additional two years to implement deficit cutting measures.
