The government is to become acquainted on Thursday with the accusations of alleged irregularities in the central bank, in the a bailout of Slovenia's largest banks in late 2013. The cabinet is expected to call on the competent authorities to examine the matter as soon as possible.
The session will be led by deputy prime Minister Boris Koprivnikar, since PM Miro Cerar is to attend the EU summit in Brussels.
Cerar said on Wednesday that he is "keeping a close eye" on the developments concerning Banka Slovenije and instructed Koprivnikar with broaching this issue at the cabinet session.
He said the government would call on the competent authorities to establish the facts and determine whether there was any wrongdoing.
Banka Slovenija governor Boštjan Jazbec came out in force on Wednesday against allegations that the central bank had manipulated data and documents in the run-up to the December 2013 bank bailout.
The media reports on the matter also made waves in parliament and the parliamentary Commission for Oversight of Public Finances will hold a special session on Friday. Moreover, the opposition New Slovenia (NSi) said it would start collecting signatures for an emergency plenary session of parliament.
The issue could also already be taken on by MPs at today's session of the parliamentary Finance and Monetary Policy.
