Govt Raises Road Tax

The government decided on Thursday to increase the road tax that vehicle owners pay every year when renewing registration. Car owners will pay around 13% more as of 15 July, while motorcycle owners will pay 10% more.

The increase will depend on engine sizes. The tax for cars with engines of up to 1,350cc will go up from EUR 55 to EUR 62, an for engines between 1,350cc and 1,800cc from EUR 85 to EUR 96.

The increase comes nearly eight months after the tax was last raised on 1 November 2012. The funds collected are currently used for Slovenia's rail network.

The government expects to collect EUR 133m in 2013, 6m more than last year.
