First-Class Political Comedy: Communist Conspiracy To Overthrow PM

The letter, made public by the SDS on Wednesday, points out the commission's head Goran Klemenčič was elected with the backing of "socialist votes" and had also himself been involved in a corruption scandal.

Moreover, it calls his deputy Rok Praprotnik an "extreme leftist" with no professional references for the post, who was appointed by the previous government in reward for ten years of journalist reports attacking all non-communist parties and politicians, especially Janša.

According to the SDS, Janša has rejected the main allegations against him about not reporting large sums of money and "has explained the origins of his entire assets, which put him in the average lower middle class level in Slovenia".

Going on to explain the reasons for the situation as a scheme of "communists and their political successors", the letter highlights Slovenia as the only post-communist country that did not go through lustration, as the "communists and their successors have blocked all attempts".

Even in retirement, former President Milan Kučan remains the most influential figure of the Slovenian left and is an active part of efforts to overthrow the government, the party wrote.

Many former communist secret police operatives still ho

ld top positions in the media, the judiciary, at universities and other important institutions, and while most do not deny their cooperation, some even glorify it, the letter goes on.

"The so-called old-boys network" controls the main media in Slovenia and has launched the series of protests around Slovenia in autumn, calling it a people's uprising, the SDS further argued.

In its response, the Corruption Prevention Commission wrote today that the letter was the "next in line of discrediting attempts" by the SDS.

The commission said it showed a very insulting attitude towards an institution of their own state and a field where Slovenia seems to have serious problems - integrity and responsibility of public office holders, limiting systemic corruption, transparency and efficiency of the state.
