Financial crisis in Europe and America

US President Barack Obama says the debt crisis in Europe is "scaring the world".

He was speaking on Monday at a meeting in California.

Obama also said that Europe never really fully recovered from the financial crisis in 2007.

"So they're going through a financial crisis that is scaring the world and they're trying to take responsible actions, but those actions haven't been quite as quick as they need to be."

At home Obama has his own problems.

Yesterday the US Senate reached a complex deal to avert a government shutdown and make billions of dollars available to American victims of natural disasters.

The bill will have to be passed by Friday in order to allow the government to keep running until the start of the new fiscal year on October the 1st.

Analysts say that is likely to happen, but the dispute is being viewed as another sign of how in-fighting is hampering the ability of Congress to pass even the most basic legislation.
