Elan Provided EUR 5m in Equipment for Qatar Handball Arenas

The three multi-purpose indoor arenas in Qatar currently serving as venues for the World Men's Handball Championship have been co-equipped by the Slovenian sports equipment manufacturer Elan in a deal worth EUR 4.8m.

Elan Inventa, a subsidiary of the Begunje na Gorenjskem-based group has equipped two arenas in Doha and one in Lusail with seats, goals, telescopic stands, benches for players, tables for scorers and journalists and other equipment.

"We have sent more than 60 containers of equipment to Qatar," head of the project Matjaž Žargi has told the STA, adding that the equipment was installed between March and December last year.

According to the contractor, this is an important project that opens doors to other markets in the Arab world. "It was not easy to get the job, we needed two years and had to convince the national Olympic committee," said Elan Inventa director Miha Šter.

According to him, the investors are satisfied and Elan Inventa is already in talks with the organisers of the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar to equip two stadiums. "We are also bidding to equip an arena in Dubai," Šter added.
