Economy Minister Nominee to be Presented in Parliament

Economy minister nominee Zdravko Počivalšek will be heard by the parliamentary Economy Committee on Tuesday. The National Assembly is expected to take the final vote on the candidate by the end of the week.

Počivalšek, the general manager of spa operator Terme Olimia, is expected to present his priorities. He will also answer questions from MPs about economic growth, investments, subsidies, privatisation and foreign investments.

Počivalšek, who was nominated by Prime Minister Mirio Cerar last Wednesday, said that he will face the press if appointed minister in the National Assembly.

The 57-year-old businessman, who is seen as one of the top managers in the country, has received the backing of the coalition partners Pensioners' Party (DeSUS) and Social Democrats (SD).

The National Assembly is expected to vote on the nominee at an extraordinary session, scheduled for Thursday and Friday.

The post of minister of economic development and technology has been vacant since Jožef Petrovič quit on 17 October after barely a month on the job. Finance Minister Dušan Mramor is serving as stand-in minister.
