Defence Minister Visiting Croatia

Slovenian Defence Minister Roman Jakič is meeting his Croatian counterpart Ante Kotromanović for a working dinner in Zagreb on Tuesday at the outset of a two-day trip to Croatia.

The pair will sign an agreement on cooperation in military and defence in 2014 on Wednesday.

Meetings with Foreign Minister Vesna Pusić and President Ivo Josipović are also scheduled for Wednesday.

The Defence Ministry says the visit is aimed at boosting bilateral and regional defence and military cooperation, and cooperation in disaster protection, as well as an exchange of views on matters of shared interest.

Jakič and Kotromanović have often demonstrated willingness to cooperate, also in recent natural disasters, while Slovenian soldiers joined Croatian troops for an international military exercise at the "Rt Kamenjak" range near Pula in April.

After talks with Kotromanović on Wednesday, Jakič is also scheduled to meet members of the committees on defence and foreign policy at the Croatian parliament.

A visit to the Croatian Petar Zrinski Military Academy and the Slovenian Embassy in Zagreb as well as a meeting with the president of the Association of Slovenian Societies in Croatia are also planned.
