Construction Permit for Upgrade of Koper Freight Station Issued

The Ministry of the Environment and Spatial Planning confirmed Wednesday it had issued the construction permit for a siding at the Koper freight train station, a project seen as a first step in the upgrade of the entire Koper-Divača track.

The project, estimated at EUR 27m, involves construction of a 1.2-kilometre side track in other to make it easier to load and unload cargo going through the Port of Koper.

The siding is seen as a key investment allowing continued growth in the volume of cargo shipped by rail, at least until the 27-kilometre second track between Koper and Divača is constructed.

The government has submitted an application for EU funding for both projects from the Connecting Europe Facility.
