Chinese battery company Shihlien Apex, which wants to set up a factory in Maribor by the end of the year, advertised the first 52 job openings on Friday of the total of 150 it had announced it would open.
CEO of the Taiwan Glass Group and its subsidiary Shihlien Energy Technology Po Shi Lin has visited Maribor twice this year. During his last stay, in early August he told the daily Večer that a EUR 15m investment in the Maribor plant was planned for the next three years.
He asserted that people from Slovenia would be hired, while his business partner would probably become CEO. The total number of staff will depend on the company's sales revenues, he said.
In a notice in today's edition of Večer, Shihlien Apex is offering 30 jobs in production, as well as jobs for engineers, marketing and IT experts, accountants, storage workers and an office manager.
The location of the factory has officially not been disclosed yet, but Maribor Mayor Andrej Fištravec reported today on Facebook that the investor was in the final phase of talks for the purchase of a production hall just south of the Maribor city centre.
Production at the plant is expected to be launched this year.
The company is to look for more staff soon and according to Fištravec employ 150 to 300 people in the next three years.
The Taiwan Glass Group is one of the five biggest glass producers in the world. Their investments in China, where they have 21 factories, reach EUR 60bn.
Through the company Shihlien the group also makes electric vehicles.
