Car Sales Up Slightly in 2011


The number of cars or light commercial vehicles registered for the first time stood at 64,899 in 2011, a 0.5% increase on the year before. Renault's compact Clio model remained the most popular car.

 

 

 

Data published by the Chamber of Commerce shows the Clio topping the list with 3,806 sold, which accounts for 6.52% of the market. Renault's Megane model followed with 2,644 vehicles sold, Volkswagen sold 2,298 Polos and 1,835 Golf models, Opel sold 1,560 Astras and 1,456 Corsas, while Škoda's Octavia came seventh with 1,140 vehicles sold. Renault tapped 15.80% of the market, Volkswagen 13.67%, Opel 8.74%, Peugeot 7.11%, Citroen 6.03%, Ford 5.22% and Škoda 5.15%. In the light commercial vehicles section, Peugeot was no. 1 with 1,703 vehicles sold, which accounts for 26.27% of the market. Renault followed with 1,542 vehicles and Volkswagen with 1,015.
