Bulgarian parliament is blocked as anti- government protesters change tactics

Anti-government protesters in Bulgaria who have been holding rallies for weeks, blocked the country's parliament on Tuesday trapping MPs inside.

When attempts were made to bus the deputies out, clashes with police ensued injuring several on both sides.

The bus was eventually forced to return to the building.

One protester explained the change in tactics:

"For 40 days we have protested peacefully but they did not hear us? Now it's high time we did something more radical."

The protests which began over a controversial appointment for the head of national security have expanded into anger over alleged government corruption.

A government spokesman said today's parliamentary session is likely to be cancelled until order can be restored.
